I'm sadden to report that we've lost another Farmington Alumnus, and a member of that Undefeated '51 Football Team. Please keep them in your thoughts.
Charles "Ralph" Martin Sr., 74, of Kellytown, passed on to be with the Lord on Good Friday (April 10, 2009) at his residence. He was born Sept. 17, 1934, at East Run, a son of the late George M. and Mary V. Joliffe Martin.Ralph served proudly in the United States Army, and was recently honored as a member of the Farmington High School Fighting Farmers' 1951 undefeated football team. He was a mechanic and Union Fire Boss for Consolidation Coal Co. (now ConsolEnergy), working many years at the Four State No. 20 mine, and later retiring with 35 years in the mining industry. He enjoyed Harley-Davidson motorcycles and race cars, and also loved mowing grass. Ralph enjoyed and dearly loved his family, and will be greatly missed.Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Charlotte Wilmoth Martin, a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Edward Biamonte Stockl of Springfield, Mo., a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Ralph Martin Jr., and wife Suzanne Martin of Uniontown, Pa., four grandchildren, Jared and Annie Martin and Ari and Lydia Biamonte; three sisters, Norma Doll of Eugene, Ore., Joanne Martin and Shirley Holden, both of Wooster, Ohio; one brother, Bill Martin of Fairmont; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Ralph also was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Gerald Martin, and his in-laws, whom he loved like parents, James E. and Beulah Wilmoth.Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with his daughter, the Rev. Charlene Martin Biamonte, officiating. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery at Farmington.
