Good Morning Farmington! I was enjoying the column that Oce Smith had in the Sunday paper this week. Such nice observations of this end of the county. One thing really bugged me though when he was listing what isn’t in our downtown and that was the fact that he said that Toothman’s Hardware is gone. I know the preface to the column said that because Mr. Smith is recovering from illness it was a previously written article, but has Bob ever shut down the Hardware store for a long period of time? I can’t even recall it being shut down that long when the tractor trailer too the curve too short and hit the side of the building back in the 1990’s! I’m sure several people in the area who read the column were just as confused as I was.
Welcome Flags Have Arrived, Help Still Needed! The Welcome to Farmington Flags have arrived! A big thank you to everyone who has rented the town sign for their messages and helped us get closer and closer towards purchasing these flags. We are, however, still $340 short on the purchase and although the flags are here, the Mayor will not permitt them to be put up until that goal is met! Please help us reach it by contacting Town Hall at 825-6442 to rent the sign, which displays your personal messages, local businesses, organization news and fundraisers, etc. to the traffic flowing through town on Rt. 218 and passing on Rt. 250. We again thank everyone who has rented the sign in the past and those who continue to do so!
Congratulation! Best wishes to our newest Newlyweds, Mr and Mrs. Josh and Tasha (Daft) Carpenter! The two will be united in marriage this Saturday. Good Luck!
Happy Earth Day! Happy Earth Day which takes place on April 22nd (next Wednesday). Please take time to do a little something extra in your daily routine to be a little friendlier to the enviroment. Go for a walk instead of driving and along the way pick up some trash that might have fallen beside the road. Enjoy our beautiful park and playground. Let the windows open up and enjoy some of that fresh Spring air. Take interest in a local club or organization that helps our community. It doesn’t take much to get a little greener!
Farmington Senior Center Hot Dog Sale Please mark your calendars for a hot dog sale which will be going on Wednesday, April 15th from noon-3 p.m. hosted by the Farmington Senior Citizens. The sale will be held at the Senior Center located on Mill Street. Please pop in and grab a nice lunch!
FHI Meeting The next Monthly meeting of the Farmington Homecoming Inc. (FHI) will be Monday, April 27th at 7 pm in the Mayor’s Office. All are encouraged to attend! Homecoming will be held Saturday August 15th this year!
Happy Birthday! Birthday wishes go out to Mary Fisher of Northview who will be turning 93 years young on April 18th!
Summer MCPARC Program to be Held The MCPARC Summer Playground Program will be held again this year at our playground located at the Ray Kelly Athletic Field (Farmington Ballfield and Community Building). The program will run from June 15th thru July 24th from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Lunch and a variety of activities and play will be provided for those attending. Children ages 5-12 are welcome to attend! We had a lot of success with our 1st program held last year and we hope to see some familiar as well as new faces this year! Also a reminder that anyone in the community under the age of 18 can come down on days the program is held and enjoy a free lunch! All you have to do is let the supervisor know before 9:30 a.m. on the days you are going to eat so that there is enough for everyone!
Deepest Sympathies Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family of another Farmington Farmer Alumnus, Charles "Ralph" Martin Sr. Ralph was a member of the Farmington High School Fighting Farmers' 1951 undefeated football team. The family requests that in lieu of flowers or gifts, please take the time to bless your children and grandchildren.
