The obituary follows for another Farmer Alumnus who passed away yesterday, sadly only a few days after his brother. The obituary is curteosy of Farmer Jo and the FHI email list which keeps us informed of many things going on with our Farmers from all areas.
William R. "Bill" Martin Sr., 80 of Fairmont passed away Monday (April 13, 2009) at the Tygart Center in Fairmont. He was born Sept. 13, 1928, at East Run, a son of the late George M. and Mary V. Joliffe Martin. Bill was a mine foreman for Eastern Associated Coal Co. Federal No. 1 Mine. He retired with over 40 years of service. He is survived by a son, Billy Martin Jr. and wife Ann of Fairmont; a daughter, Diane Owens of Kingmont; a granddaughter, Rachel Martin; three sisters, Norma Doll of Eugene, Ore., Joanne Martin and Shirley Holden, both of Wooster, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Christine Sokolosky and Jane Hulderman, both of Idamay; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Harvey Bennington; three brothers, Charles "Ralph" Martin Sr., Robert Martin and Gerald Martin. A joint funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today at Hutson Funeral Home with his close brother Ralph Martin Sr. with the Rev. Charlene Martin Biamonte officiating. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery at Farmington. |
